Extended country pub (originally a 1900s slaughterhouse) with magnificent Downs views - particularly popular at wknds; bar area with a couple of high tables and chairs on bare boards, old local photographs, Dark Star and Harveys, good choice of wines by the glass, lower brick-floored room with farmhouse furniture and woodburner, similarly furnished hop-draped dining room (children allowed here), further two-room front dining area with high-backed rush-seated chairs, bistro-style bar food, friendly service; dogs welcome in bar, teak seating on raised back deck taking in the view, picnic-sets in garden below and more under parasols at front, cl Sun evenings in winter and between Christmas and New Year
