Plough, Sparsholt, Hampshire, SO21 2NW – The Good Pub Guide

Good Pub Guide Recommended

Neat, well run dining pub with interesting furnishings, an extensive wine list, and popular bar food; garden with children's play fort
Particularly well run by friendly, polite licensees and their well trained staff, this country pub is always deservedly busy; you must book in advance to be sure of a table. Of course most customers are here to enjoy the wide choice of reliably good food but they do keep Wadworths IPA, 6X, Bishops Tipple and Horizon on handpump, and have an extensive wine list with a fair selection by the glass including champagne and pudding wine. The main bar has an interesting mix of wooden tables and chairs with farm tools, scythes and pitchforks attached to the ceiling. Disabled access and facilities. Outside, there are plenty of seats on the terrace and lawn and a children's play fort.

Good Pub Guide Food

Well presented, much-liked food includes lunchtime sandwiches, chicken liver and bacon in a mushroom cream sauce, grilled mackerel on crostini with a tomato and garlic compote, beef and mushroom in ale pie with mustard mash, butternut squash risotto with a pine nut crumb, thai chicken curry, steak burgers with pepper sauce, and pork loin with stilton sauce, glazed apples and dauphinoise potatoes.

Bar food times: 12 - 2, 6 - 9 (9.30 Fri and Sat)

Came with my boyfriend on a couple night out. Really pleasant, relaxed atmosphere with civilised clientèle and a good, competent choice of ales. The food took a while to get to us (40 mins) but we both really enjoyed it. He had the lamb and I the panfried pork (for which the sauce was absolutely stunning). Prices are a little bit high (we both paid around £15 for our meals, but the quality and atmosphere were worth it! We'll be back soon.
