The only way to describe the Jolly Sailor is despicable.

Firstly we were seated for a family meal beside a large table of about 20 revellers, who didn't shut up and monopolised the waiting staff.

Also having planned my meal from the online menu when I arrived things had all changed.

The wait between Starter and Main was around an hour.

When my main arrived, I had ordered the sea bass, it was one tiny fillet, on a bed of salad with very little else. That was £15.50. With sea bass whole retailing at £3 that is one hell of a mark up.

The rest of the mains were very small portions and not very good value for money.

I would not recommend anyone go to this establishment for food it is awful, if you are a yachty in need of a swift half then perfect, but steer well clear if you are after decent food or value for money

What a disappointment! The pub was not overly busy and we only saw one couple eating when we arrived. I ordered a small white wine, was not offered a choice and just took what was handed to me. We ordered our meal and after an approximate 40 - 45 minute wait it arrived. My husband ordered the steak and ale pie with side order of mash and cabbage. The cabbage had obviously just been dangled over the hot water as it was raw, the mash had no seasoning whatsoever and the pie was inedible. My mum's sausage and mash came with no veg and we later noticed you had to order this separately but no mention was made of this when ordering. I had the tuscan chicken on risotto or should I say hard, clammy, tasteless mush. Following a disaster of a dinner we decided to treat ourselves to a nice pudding to make up for it (fools). My two scoops of ice cream were a joke, it had already half melted and since when does scoop mean teaspoon. My mum ordered Eton Mess which was a joke at £5. A small ring of meringe piped with squirty cream and 5 raspberries! The meringue was so hard my mum couldn't break it and when I showed the waitress and managed to break it, it shot off the plate with the pressure applied. Fair do's we didn't have to pay for my husband's pie and we returned the puddings. Will we go again ... NO!

Fantastic food that is fairly priced with a minimal wait considering it is cooked to order, Excellent choice of wines. 3 choices of real ale all of excellent quality (so my husband said) and even our t toal friend was impressed with their choice of non alcoholic drinks. The service was fantastic from the girl behind the bar and the the waitress. We even got to meet the landlady who was very fuuny and took time to chat with us. Will recommend this pub to everybody I could!

One of my favourite pubs, the pub that appeared in 'Howard's Way', perfect for anyone who like the water and sailing. Access is via steps down from the road, right on the water's edge. Refurbished a few years ago, the pub was given a more open feel inside, but there are still plenty of corners to hide away in for a quiet drink. The food is good, enjoyed an excellent fish pie on my last visit, and there is an interesting selection of beer, and always plenty to watch out on the water. Toasty log fires in the winter and plenty of seating outside in the summer.
