Jolly Farmer, Bramley, Surrey, GU5 0HB – The Good Pub Guide

Good Pub Guide Recommended

Relaxed village inn near Surrey hills with great selection of beers
The eight handpumps at this family-owned free house serve Hogsback HBB and Sharps Doom Bar alongside half a dozen guests - they can go through up to 20 different ales a week - typically from brewers such as Ballards, Milestone and Vale. They also keep three changing belgian draught beers and a dozen wines by the glass. The traditional interior is filled with a miscellany of homely wooden tables and chairs, with various collections of plates, enamel advertising signs, sewing machines, antique bottles, prints and old tools filling the walls and surfaces. Timbered semi-partitions, a mixture of brick and timbering and an open fireplace give it a snug cosy feel; piped music, dominoes and board games. There are tables out by the car park and the village is handy for Winkworth Arboretum and walks up St Martha's Hill.

Good Pub Guide Food

As well as lunchtime sandwiches, bar food includes whitebait, smoked haddock fishcakes, ploughman's, home-made burger, fried cod fillet with citrus and saffron butter, pie of the day, with daily specials such as fried calves liver with red wine jus, fried duck breast with port and redcurrant sauce, mushroom risotto, and baked trout with lemon and dill.

Bar food times: 12 - 2.30, 6.30 (7 Sun) - 9.30

Excellent pub, actually further up Bramley High Street than the map shows. Free Wi-Fi connection (although the signal's a little weak!). I have the feeling that the food's not quite as good as it used to be, but still a cut above most pubs, and the selection of real ales is superb!
