Gribble Inn, Oving, Sussex, PO20 2BP – The Good Pub Guide

Lucky Dip

16th-c thatched pub with own-brewed beers and guests, chatty bar with lots of heavy beams and timbering, old country-kitchen furnishings and pews, other linked rooms with cottagey feel, huge winter log fires, home-made food (not Sun evening) using own ale in some dishes, skittle alley with bar, live jazz (first Tues of month); children in family room, dogs allowed in bar, seats outside under covered area, more in pretty garden, open all day weekends

We chose this pub using the Good Pub Guide as it was child friendly - and it was to an extent. We sat inside near another family with young children where there was a toy box so there were things to entertain our little ones. However, there was only one highchair which was disappointing (and suprising!). The garden area with picnic style tables looked very nice (it was too cold to sit out unfortunately), although it was on a peaching base so not quite as ideal for toddlers as a grassy area.
The interior of the pub was lovely and had a nice atmosphere but we were very disappointed with the food - it was very low standard traditional pub fayre and was, we felt, therefore overpriced. The service was also poor - our waitress didn't have any understanding of the menu when we asked her a few straightforward questions about it.
So, unfortunately, for us, although the pub was reasonably child friendly, the food and service was very disappointing and we would definately not rush back.

An atmospheric thatched-cottage pub, excellent range (6 or 7, or maybe more!) of high quality beers, easy to find a few miles off the Chichester bypass. You can imagine the Spitfire pilots from nearby Westhampnett and Tangmere aerodromes rolling up in their MGs (and the MG car club meets there every month now). Excellent lunchtime food. I would expect it gets really packed but our Thursday lunchtime visit was pleasantly relaxed.
