Good Pub Guide Recommended
This unspoilt old pub has a lovely welcoming atmosphere and our readers tend to come back again and again. The bar has exposed stone and old plastered walls, hop-hung beams, fine old polished flagstones by the stone bar counter and a woodburning stove in a huge inglenook fireplace. A cosy room off the bar (full of old books and photographs) can seat parties of ten people and the restaurant has been recently refurbished. Hook Norton Hooky Bitter and two regularly changing guests on handpump, ten wines by the glass and locally brewed lager; piped music, darts and board games. The pub has fine views over the surrounding countryside from the walled garden and a couple of tables on the terrace overlook the quiet village road and church; aunt sally. Good surrounding walks.
Good Pub Guide Food
Good, nicely served food using local produce includes filled baguettes, three cheese and apple tart with a beetroot dressing, a duo of local sausages in grain mustard sauce, spiced chicken breast with sweet potato and parmesan, chive mash and a mango salsa, salmon and spinach wellington, pork wrapped in parma ham, and wild mushroom, spinach and ricotta cannelloni.
