Smartly refurbished pub not far from the coast, smashing fish (and other) dishes and a good choice of drinks served by helpful staff; seats outside
Good Pub Guide Recommended
Stylish, yet informally friendly, this attractively refurbished country pub is not far from the Fylde Coast and Blackpool. Of course many customers are here to enjoy the top class fish (and other) dishes but those in for a pint are just as welcome to sit with a newspaper in an armchair by the fire or at the high chairs on flagstones beside the counter: Thwaites Wainwright, Timothy Taylors Landlord and a guest ale on handpump and around 14 wines by the glass. The smart dining areas, on two floors, have painted panelled walls, woodburning stoves in stone fireplaces and an eclectic collection of cushioned settles and tartan and plush upholstered and wooden dining chairs around wooden tables on carpeting or polished floorboards. Outside, surrounded by lavender beds, the sheltered terrace has plenty of teak seats and tables. This is part of the Seafood Pub Company.
Good Pub Guide Food
Using the freshest, seasonal fish, the interesting choices include devilled crab, salmon and brown shrimps, sesame king prawn soldiers with soy and citrus dipping sauce, smoked haddock with bubble and squeak, a poached egg and mustard butter sauce, and peppered tuna steak. Non-fishy choices include mushroom gnocchi with spinach, cream and breadcrumbs, steak burger with toppings and fries, free-range gammon steak with pineapple and sweet pepper salsa, satay chicken skewer with singapore fried rice, shrimp, shredded pork and peanut dressing, and puddings such as vanilla rice pudding with home-made raspberry jam and caramel chocolate pot with salted peanut praline.
