Dysart Arms, Bunbury, Cheshire, CW6 9PH – The Good Pub Guide

Good Pub Guide Recommended

Civilised chatty dining pub attractively filled with good furniture in thoughtfully laid-out rooms; very enjoyable food, lovely garden with pretty views
Although very much opened up, the rooms at this comfortable country pub still retain a cottagey feel and an easy-going sociable atmosphere. Neatly kept, they ramble gently around the pleasantly lit central bar. Cream walls keep it all light, clean and airy, with deep venetian red ceilings adding cosiness, and each room (some with good winter fires) is nicely furnished with an appealing variety of well spaced sturdy wooden tables and chairs, a couple of tall filled bookcases and just the right amount of carefully chosen bric-a-brac, properly lit pictures and plants. Flooring ranges from red and black tiles, to stripped boards and some carpet. Service is efficient and friendly. Phoenix Brunning & Price Original, Weetwood and two or three guests from brewers such as Copper Dragon, Phoenix and Wooden Hand are on handpump alongside a good selection of 17 wines by the glass from a list of about 70, and just over 20 malts. Sturdy wooden tables on the terrace and picnic-sets on the lawn in the neatly kept slightly elevated garden are lovely in summer, with views of the splendid church at the end of this pretty village, and the distant Peckforton Hills beyond.

Good Pub Guide Food

From a changing menu, food is tasty, just imaginative enough, attractively presented and fairly priced. As well as sandwiches, there might be fried scallops with carrot and cumin purée and crisp parma ham, crab linguine with ginger, red chilli and coriander, moroccan spiced lamb rump with apricot and date salad and chick pea cakes, coq au vin, home-made burger, and fried venison rump with venison faggot and juniper jus.

A typical Brunning & Price pub when it comes to location, décor and theme. However on this occasion we found the food slightly disappointing. But before I discuss the food, the first point will be the lackadaisical service from the waitress. We waited what seemed an age between courses and they were not at all busy. I had a very tasteless pate with a miniscule portion of sticky jam and an even smaller portion of toasted brioche to eat it with it. The chef redeemed him/herself somewhat as the fish pie was very good however it shouldn’t have been served with beans French style which had pickled onions and bacon in it!! Not the right accompaniment for the British pub favourite as the Fish Pie.The food was a little pricey. Being a Saturday, the bar was full of locals so just trying to get a drink proved difficult. Suggest they rethink the positions of their bar stools or rename an area as ‘locals’ bar! Needless to say we didn’t stay for dessert. My favourite area would be the far side of the bar overlooking the garden. The coal fire in the bar and the log fire were all lit which was good as it was a cold May day.

Good food, very much to the Bunning and Price standard. Extremely friendly staff and nice outdoor seating area.

What a friendly pub! A very appetising menu, although the dishes we chose fell slightly short of expectation in the flavour stakes. My risotto was over seasoned and slightly reminiscent of a packet mix! Good real ale selection, including a few local beers, which is always nice to see. Overall, a pleasant dining experience and a lovely atmosphere.

We went to this pub for lunch on the way to beeston castle in feb half term and we had a lovely afternoon. The pub came as a nice suprise the decor was pleasant the place was spottless the staff were also pleasant. The pub was running a special sausage week so the children were happy it was a little pricey but not bad value. Very glad we looked it up after reading about on here

We found the pub to be friendly and comfortable, but unfortunately the food was a big disappointment--especially considering our expectations from the menu. Overall, the dishes were just plain dull, showing none of the exotic or creative touches promised on the menu. It was truly food to yawn over, e.g. venison pie that was all stodgy pastry and very little meat; fish stew that was all tomato and peppers so that the fish could have been anything. Moreover, the bread portion, although huge, was dry and tasteless, and the butter pats had bits of green paper napkin stuck to it. House wine was OK. Service was very friendly.

Civilised but friendly pub opposite lovely old church.
Excellent food and well kept beers
