Went for a sandwich lunch and was very disappointed not only by the limited choice but by the sandwich itself. Sliced processed white bread with a little grated cheese( mature, I don't think so ) and pickle. Tacos, coleslaw and a spoonful if salad as a garnish. Will not be going back again.
ale excellent, staff super, pub lovely, food below average on our visit sadly
This is a wonderful place. I first visited while on holiday on a cold, damp October Monday evening and was delighted to be welcomed by a warm fire, a fine meal (the soups are excellent), a well-kept beer, and a charming landlady. When I visited again the next Friday, said charming landlady remembered me and asked about my trip to Cornwall which we had discussed during my previous visit. This is one the coziest and most welcoming pubs I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. I hope to go back, sooner rather than later.
Have enjoyed a visit to this pub on many occasions when passing through the area and have never been disappointed.
Good food, friendly staff who will always find room for you even at their busiest times.
One of the finest pubs I have visited in years. Great ales which change regulary together with some fine ciders, including the near fatal Black Rat! The food is served in quantities that can only be described as "heroic" and their homemade chili con carne is made from chunks of steak not liquified beef mince. There place is busy but still very much a local pub where all are welcome - including your dog. Parking is plentiful.
The menu changes regulary but they bake their own hams which are soaked in cider for days before cooking. There is a large open fire and the entire pub is decorated with genuine horse brasses. The beer garden is very large and well appointed with views over open farmland. Though they do not have rooms these can be arranged through the landlady, my wife and I have used them, together with my huge Mastiff, and found this facility to be wonderful.
The pub is run with endless enthusiasm by Maggie (the ladlady) and her two tireless sons. The pub is efficient and the loos are very clean (if they keep the loos clean then the kitchens will be too).
In short a good range of perfectly kept bitter and cider (lagers too I guess) fantastic food in good portions a great welcome for you and your dog with romms probably available.
I cannot nderstand why this is not a main entry.
