Good Pub Guide Recommended
Much emphasis is placed on the popular often interesting food served at this agreeable 18th-c pub. It's been nicely restored to reveal its attractive structure and there are heavy worn flagstones, a log fire, pubby tables, a dark wood counter and green walls and ceilings that give a stylishly simple feel to the clean-cut central bar: Marstons Pedigree on handpump, 30 malt whiskies and decent house wines. Beyond here, a further eating room has maroon walls, dark pews and cherry-stained tables. The two-room dining area on the right has a comfortably civilised chatty feel with big quite close-set antique tables on seagrass matting and colourful modern country prints and antique engravings on canary walls. Even at lunchtime there are lighted candles in elegant modern holders.
Good Pub Guide Food
Enjoyable if not cheap food includes sandwiches, ploughman's, fish and spinach pancake with cheese, rabbit terrine with cumberland sauce, creamy pork and cider casserole, beef and mushroom pudding, duck breast with cabbage and whisky, salmon with sweet potato curry, mushroom stroganoff, sausage and mash, and steaks; Sunday roast.
