High-ceilinged stripped-stone hotel lounge, unstuffy with well kept ales such as Butcombe, Wadworths and Wickwar, good house wines, friendly young staff, enjoyable all-day bar food from sandwiches up, medieval-style chairs and cast-iron tables, elegant fireplace, brass ceiling fans and Ronald Searle pony-club cartoons, nice side room and anteroom, restaurant, gentle great dane called Fred; unobtrusive piped music, bar can get very busy wknd evenings; children and dogs welcome, large sheltered terrace, comfortable bedrooms

Had a super dinner here Sat evening, the best Pot Roast Chicken I have ever tasted and the Parmesan Potatoes were superb. Staff very helpfull, my partner and I felt very relaxed, lovely setting too. Will certainly re-visit.
