Good Pub Guide Recommended
Our readers have very much enjoyed their visits over the last year to this well run old brick pub. It's a comfortable place to stay, the food is honest, the beers well kept and you can be sure of a friendly welcome. The traditionally furnished main bar has benches, pews, captain's chairs and wooden tables on its tiled floor, a woodburning stove (left open in cold weather) and lots of sea prints. From the handsomely panelled bar counter they serve Adnams Bitter and Broadside, Grainstore IPA, Green Jack Lurcher Stout and Humpty Dumpty Little Sharpie from antique handpumps, Aspall's cider, a local lager and several wines by the glass; board games. A simple conservatory looks on to a back terrace, and the large garden is very pleasant, with its well spaced picnic-sets, two large anchors and enormous fig tree, and they may have Shakespeare performances in August. The RSPB reserve at Minsmere and nearby Dunwich Museum are certainly worth visiting and there are some of Suffolk's best coastal walks nearby.
