Stayed here for two nights: the rooms are clean but pretty spartan. The food was alright but on both nights the basics in the meats and sauces were not all there and the menu seemed over ambitious for the skills of the chef. The breakfast portions were small.

On the positive side the beer was in terrific shape and the staff were outstandingly friendly and helpful.

I stopped off here in the middle of a long walk in Surrey. The food was lovely, the wine was delicious, the staff were friendly and all in all, it was a wonderful pub to while away a couple of hours before the next leg of the journey. Highly recommended.

I admit it - this is an old favourite of mine. It is still doing well despite the credit crunch because, much as it is a destination pub/restaurant for food, it has never forgotten that it is also a local. The welcome is friendly and it doesn't take many vists before they remember you. If you plan on eating at lunchtime on summer weekends, it may be as well to book as the pub seems to be in every walking guide going and can get a bit overrun in fine weather (not sure if you can book for outside), though the staff always manage to cope somehow. Yes the food is not cheap but we've always found it good and portions are enormous. Very dog friendly.

This is an upmarket, quite pricey pub. The food is really very good, but so it should be for the price. Not a place to go to if you are after a cheap bit of grub. A roast beef baguette costs £8.50. Uniformed staff and tweed jacketed clientele set the scene. If you ask for a packet of crisps they are brought to your table in a bowl, as are pork scratchings. We much enjoyed our visit.
