Royal Oak, Perranwell Station, Truro, TR3 7PX – The Good Pub Guide

Good Pub Guide Recommended

Welcoming and relaxed with well liked food and real ales
This is a fine little pub surrounded by plenty of walks and cycle tracks. The roomy, carpeted bar has a relaxed atmosphere, horsebrasses and pewter and china mugs on its black beams and joists, plates and country pictures on the cream-painted stone walls and cosy wall and other seats around candlelit tables. It rambles around beyond a big stone fireplace (with a winter log fire) into a snug little nook of a room behind, with just a couple more tables. Sharps Doom Bar and IPA and Skinners Betty Stogs on handpump, as well as good wines by the glass and farm cider.

Good Pub Guide Food

Under the new licensees, the popular food (listed on oak tree-shaped boards) includes lunchtime sandwiches, a terrine of the day with chutney, scallops with sherry, cream and chorizo, a tapas plate, beer-battered cod with chips, seafood pie, pork tenderloin with thyme, cream and capers, hake fillet with herb butter, chicken stew with chorizo, confit duck, and puddings such as caramel apple pie and hot chocolate brownie with ice-cream.

Bar food times: 12 - 2.30, 6.30 - 9.30

We welcome the new managers of this lovely pub, Tim and Lizzie. We hope that with the new management the quality of wine improves and the good food continues. After 18 years, Richard Rudland, the previous landlord, has now left having retired.

Visited 25th April for a meal. Pleased to report that standards are well maintained - good food, attentive service and we were relieved to discover that the pub is no longer for sale and the landlord is still much in evidence ensuring that everything is as it should be. Highly recommended.

Had a meal here in October, 9 of us for a family evening. Excellent menu choice, fresh fish, friendly landlord and great service. Locals from Truro in the family were really positive, and will return. I would recommend it to anyone, not too far off main A39, and worth the detour.
