Charming village pub lit up with evening candles, small flagstoned bar to right of massive main door with settles and carved dining chairs around polished tables, daily papers on old-fashioned child's desk, fresh flowers and some quirky ornaments dotted about, well kept west country ales, good if not cheap food, friendly service, smart cosy dining room with attractive mix of Chippendale and other chairs around a few dark wood tables, big modern photographs and coal-effect gas fire in attractive back snug, upstairs room with trusses in high pitched ceiling, refectory tables and an oriental rug on wood floor, large prints of cathedral cities; children and dogs welcome, teak seats outside by lane, two bedrooms, closed Sun evening and Mon in winter
