Surprised to read the above comment. The italian family that took over this historic pub a couple of years ago have done a fantastic job. OK, the emphasis is very much on food - which can be somewhat pricey, but with that you get the best for miles around - but to their credit they have retained an area for 'drinkers', and 3 real ales that are well looked after. This really is my favourite 'eating' pub.

This pub is a disgrace. A few years back I went with my wife and children and the chap who looked like the manager was very rude and the only reason I could think of was that of race. I went there again later under the impression that the management had changed, but the same chap turned up and had the same behaviour, this time telling us the pub is fully booked. May be, may not be, but there is a polite way of saying it. If this chap with a shaven head is the manager, owners, please take note. Such behaviour is unseen around the nice Mill Hill area and other pubs there in ( like the Gate)
