Good Pub Guide Recommended
This rewarding 18th-c pub is in lovely country where the River Hodder carves a course beneath Longridge Fell just south of the moors of the Forest of Bowland. There are splendid views from the terraced gardens and bedrooms, and residents can fish in the nearby river. As well as two pleasantly up-to-date dining rooms, there's a traditional, cosy central bar with bookshelves, cushioned settles and a log fire; board games. The choice of regional ales on handpump includes beers from Black Sheep and Moorhouses with a couple of guests from brewers such as Tirril; 11 wines by the glass and a good range of malt whiskies.
Good Pub Guide Food
Using locally sourced meat, game from local shoots, and herbs from their own garden, robust country food might include smoked goats cheese tart and seared pigeon breast, ox cheek pie, linguine salsa verde, and blackcurrant sponge with liquorice ice-cream; good value Sunday lunch and perhaps a good value two-course weekday lunchtime menu.
