Cheerfully quirky country pub with chatty landlord, all manner of bric-a-brac from life-size Tintin and Snowy to a tiger's head in hop-hung rooms, one wall covered in sheet music, empty wine bottles everywhere, green-painted, cushioned mate's chairs around nice pine tables, candles, big log fire, good interesting food using prime local meat and seasonal produce, Greene King IPA and Harveys Best tapped from casks, nice wine, good summer Pimms and winter mulled wine/cider, dining conservatory; piped jazz; children welcome, dogs in bar, pretty garden with roaming chickens and ducks, bat and trap, handy for Stodmarsh National Nature Reserve, bedrooms (not ensuite)
