Old-fashioned unchanging country local in lovely Peak District countryside, simple beamed interior with plain furniture on quarry tiles, china ornaments and coal fire, well kept Marstons Pedigree and guests, own-label bottled beers (available in gift packs), good pork pies, family room with pool, skittles and darts; picnic-sets out in front along with budgies, hens, turkeys, ducks and donkeys, you can buy free-range eggs, local poetry books and even hay, good hikes across nearby Dove Valley towards Longnor and Hollinsclough, small campsite next-door, caravan for hire

I have been going to this pub for over 20 years, and it has not changed a bit. Perfectly kept beer in unpretentious surroundings, friendly locals in a fabulous setting. No gastropub this, but you can get egg and chips (a pickled egg in a bag of crisps), wonderful pork pies with pickled onions, even a flapjack. Long may it continue unchanged.

One of my favourite pubs. Stuck in a time warp, this pub is unspoilt by progress. You can always get a decent pint and, unusually, mild.
The main GPG review mentions snacks and meals. Ken does a great pork pie but that's as close as you'll get to a meal.
