Pleasantly unpretentious old country tavern with two beamed homely bars, Thwaites ales, straightforward food (all day Sun), lattice windows and traditional furnishings, old guns over woodburner in one room, Royal Doulton figurines above log fire in dining bar with conservatory; quiet piped music, games machine; children welcome, front terrace and spacious side/back garden, well equipped play area, open all day wknds (till 1am Sat), cl Mon (except bank hols)

Lovely pub with great food. A bit difficult to find in the pre-TomTom days but no excuses now, so well worth a visit. At it's best in the summer when you can sit outside and soak in the sun but also very welcoming in the winter with warm rooms and a decent selection of beers.
