Good Pub Guide Recommended
Welcoming and well cared for, the light and airy open-plan interior at this single-storey pub has big windows looking far across the bay and to the Great Orme. Extending around the three long sides of the bar counter, the mix of seating and well spaced tables, oriental rugs on pale stripped boards, shelves of books, welcoming coal fires, the profusion of pictures, big pot plants, careful lighting and dark green school radiators are all typical of the pubs in this small, well-received chain. Friendly interested young staff serve Phoenix Brunning & Price, Purple Moose Snowdonia ale and three or four changing guests from brewers such as Cairngorm, Copper Dragon and Great Orme on handpump, well chosen good value wines including 20 by the glass, and more than 60 malts; board games and piped music. There are sturdy tables and chairs on a side terrace and on a lower one by a lawn with picnic-sets.
Good Pub Guide Food
Served all day, reliable much-liked food from their changing menu could typically include substantial sandwiches, ploughman's with welsh cheeses, charcuterie for two, home-cured duck breast with pickled beetroot and orange dressing, spicy potted crab, smoked haddock kedgeree with boiled egg, crispy pork belly, apple and roast chorizo salad, grilled thai chicken with coconut rice, goats cheese and mushroom lasagne, and rump steak with watercress and horseradish butter.
