Genuinely aged village pub with cheerful atmosphere, heavy beams, timbers, flagstones and nooks and crannies hidden away behind inglenook, generous helpings of well liked food (not Sun evening) using produce from own farm, five well kept changing ales inc Ringwood, 16 wines by the glass, local juice, efficient service; shop selling own meat, cheeses, cured hams, pies and so forth; dogs allowed in bar, attractive gardens with lovely country views, good walks nearby, open all day (till midnight Sat)

We went there for lunch on the basis of other reviews and were not disappointed. The roaring fires, beamed ceiling and flagstone floor create a really friendly warm atmosphere. The bar staff were extremely friendly, beer and food very good. We shall certainly return when in the area

We had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch here. The food is reliably good, there is a nice wine list including interesting choices by the glass and the beer is kept well. If you use crutches or a walking frame, most of the inside of the pub is easily accessible with only very small changes of level and a proper disabled loo. The outside seating at the front is on the flat but the pretty side garden is accessed either by 5 or 6 steps or a rather long detour via the carpark. Don't miss the new farm shop, it's a delight.

The last time we went to this pub, three weeks ago, things seemed rather out of kilter - service was unusually distracted and there were a few silly mistakes with the food - very out of character for this place. Unfortunately, when I got this months Surrey Life magazine, we understood why. I'm sorry to report that Charles Gotto was killed in a farming accident in May - I don't have any more details. His wife Linda is carrying on and I'm sure everyone will wish her well.

This is a lovely place for lunch with really good food and a nice choice of wines by the glass. Portions are generous. It's also one of the few pubs I know where you go in for lunch and come out with your dinner from the shop. Do try their mutton if it's on the menu or indeed the butchers counter. Plans for the new, expanded farm shop are well advanced and currently (November 2009) up in the bar for customers to examine. If you ride, there is not only a hitching rail outside the pub, but thoughtfully, a mounting block as well.

One of our favourites. Good food, staff and lovely rural setting. Justifies the cost of the satnav.
