Worth a Visit

Best to visit this 17th-c former chop house outside peak times (early evening especially) when packed and staff can struggle; soaked in history with warmly old-fashioned unpretentious rooms, high beams, bare boards, old built-in black benches, Victorian paintings on dark brown walls, big open fires, tiny snug and steep stone steps down to unexpected series of cosy areas and secluded alcoves, Sam Smiths, all-day pubby food; look out for the famous parrot (now stuffed) who entertained princes and other distinguished guests for over 40 years; children allowed in eating area lunchtime only, closed Sun evening

So much history, good beer...this pub is a can't miss, especially for tourists.

This pub is a must if you are visiting London. The main bar can get very busy so head downstairs if you want a bit more space.

This is an amazing pub, you get a real feeling of old London town when you sit in the cellars and have some great food.
Atmosphere is amazing, I highly recommend you try it, but please leave a seat for me.

oh, and watch your head, when you go you will find out why.

Awright geezers, best pub in the world. The old cellaris amazing and DR. Samual Johnson and Mr. Charles Dickens already had their ales there. Astonishing and the richards are quite cheap. We call it "home"
