17th-c pub in lovely spot with fantastic views, keen, friendly young licensees, and good bar food
An enthusiastic and friendly young couple are now running this 17th-c pub. It' s in a lovely spot up a steep lane from the golden-stone village with fantastic views over the Vale of Evesham towards the welsh mountains; seats on the terrace are much prized on fine days. Inside, there' s a friendly welcome for both drinkers and diners and the bars have low ceilings, heavy beams, flagstones and a big log fire in the inglenook fireplace. The roomy extension has big picture windows overlooking the attractive garden. Donnington BB and SBA on handpump and a good choice of wines by the glass; darts but no noisy games machines or piped music. The pub is on the Cotswold Way National Trail.Good Pub Guide Food
Good, popular bar food includes lunchtime filled baguettes, ploughman' s, soup, chicken liver and foie gras parfait with red onion marmalade, various tapas, free-range three-egg omelettes, tomato and chick pea curry, gloucester old spot sausage on cheddar mash with a rich jus, beer-battered haddock, sirloin steak with café du paris butter, daily specials, and puddings; they also serve a three-course set menu and Sunday roasts
