Good Pub Guide Recommended
Consistently well run and highly enjoyable, this is a bustling pub with four own-brew beers, brewed in the little stables across the street, on handpump: Ale of Atholl, Braveheart, Light and the stronger Old Remedial. They also keep around 40 malt whiskies and a good choice of wines by the glass and carafe. Although much extended over the years, the lively bar, in the oldest part of the building, still seems an entity in itself, nicely pubby and with plenty of character. Above the fireplace in the smaller room is an interesting painting of the village before the road was built (Moulin used to be a bustling market town, far busier than upstart Pitlochry), while the bigger carpeted area has a good few tables and cushioned banquettes in little booths divided by stained-glass country scenes, another big fireplace, some exposed stonework, fresh flowers, antique golf clubs, and local and sporting prints around the walls; bar billiards and board games; there's also a restaurant. On a gravelled area and surrounded by tubs of flowers, picnic-sets outside look across to the village kirk and there are excellent walks nearby.
Good Pub Guide Food
Well liked bar food using local fish and game includes lunchtime sandwiches, venison terrine with beetroot and orange chutney, stuffed peppers, haggis, neeps and tatties, seafood pancake, chicken in a creamy mustard sauce, beer-battered haddock and chips, and game casserole; the restaurant is more pricey.
