The love affair started last summer when my husband and I took our touring friends for a pub lunch after squeezing through the Columbia Road Flower Market. After one visit we knew that we'd be suggesting this pub to all of our guests - and inviting our local friends to enjoy the best fish 'n' chips in London. I must say though, that everthing we've eaten here has been fantastic.

We really enjoy the fresh, seasonal menu and the best Bloody Mary to be had anywhere. However, it's the staff that make the pub irresistible. The chef prepares seasonal menu items from scratch. David makes knowledgeable recommendations and can suggest food/drink pairings (besides being thoroughly lovely and entertaining). The owners sweat and pull beer like everyone else.

Not least, the Landlady is keen to keep the Marksman pub a cornerstone of the community by hosting events and running special bartering promotions on occasion. The pub is a cozy place to have a meal or a drink for any occasion. You never know when you might hear Dolly Parton and Ladyhawke on the same day.

[Since the 55 bus stops right outside, you can stop by on your way from or to central London. No excuses.]

The Marksman recently hosted a tenth anniversary party for the Afterall art journal. All of us at Afterall were delighted with the lovely venue, warm and friendly atmosphere and highly professional staff!

I cannot praise this pub/restaurant highly enough. I held my birthday party there and the staff were warm, welcoming and professional. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere perfect.
All my friends loved it and thought I'd made an inspired choice. So thank you to the two young owners Gary and Dawn and their great team.
