Good Pub Guide Recommended

Friendly retreat from the surrounding moors of Kinder Scout, with reasonably priced food; bedrooms
The traditional red plush bar at this homely place proudly displays photos of the original [I]Coronation Street[I] cast, many of whom were regulars here, along with Tony Warren, one of its earlier script writers, and Arthur Lowe of [I]Dad's Army[I] fame. It's quite possible that the interior hasn't changed much since those days. You'll find a warm fire, brass platters in numbers, china and toby jugs, fresh flowers on the tables and counter lined with red plush stools (Thornbridge Lord Marples, Timothy Taylors Landlord and a guest such as Whim Hartington on handpump); TV and piped music. Lying as it does within the bounds of the Peak District National Park, this is a great place to come down to if you've been walking on the windswept moors, and tables on a stone-walled terrace look over a big-windowed weaver's house towards Lantern Pike. Dogs may be allowed in at the licensees' discretion and if clean.

Good Pub Guide Food

Served in generous helpings, bar food includes sandwiches, haddock and spring onion fishcakes, cajun breaded chicken, stilton vegetable bake, thai-style lamb on tagliatelle, steak and ale pie, and steaks.

The GPG says that a main Entry pub is one worth making a special journey to visit. Well, we did - and this isn't! The food didn't match that described in the guide, the service was slow, and the place was empty other than for ourselves in the middle of a Thursday lunchtime! We had to ask for the very loud piped music to be turned down so we could hear oursleves speak. Two more people came in just before we left, but as one was a vegetarian there were problems finding something for her to eat. That says it all really. Nothing out of the very ordinary here to warrant our 55 mile round trip. Someone needs to look at this place before including it again as a Main Entry.
