Lucky Dip

Attractive golden-stone inn by the village green, several rooms with nice mix of furniture ranging from hardwood pews through old church chairs and wheelbacks to leather dining chairs around all sorts of tables, worn flagstones, bare boards and rugs, a good few prints, shelves of books, candles, small basic bar with Hook Norton, Wye Valley and a guest ale, quite a few wines by the glass from a thoughtful list, well liked interesting food in bar and restaurant; piped music; children welcome, dogs in bar, some tables on york-stone terrace, picnic-sets under parasols in garden with fruit trees, walks on nearby hills, bedrooms, open all day

We recieved terrible service here. We arrived to be told that we hadn't booked which upset my mother who had been in considerable contact planning the event (my parents Diamond wedding anniversary). We had to insist that we had a table in the restaurant and then the service was very slow. We arrived at 1.30 - by 3.00 we were still waiting for our main course and when we asked (politely) what had happened to our food the waitress snapped at us in a very rude way. When we complained about this there was almost no response - half an hour later the waitress came to our table and said 'I am sorry if you thought I was rude' in a very churlish way. We pointed out that wasn't even an acknowledgement that she had been rude- much less an apology. At 4.10pm when we were eventually finishing our meal - the managers came and offered a full apology but only after my Brother had complained again. The food was expensive and not too great - but the poor service will ensure we never go there again
