Good Pub Guide Recommended
With affable licensees and a warm welcome for all, our readers enjoy their visits here very much. It's a snug old stone cottage with quite a lot of racing folk customers and live horse-racing on TV and the comfortable beamed bar has racing memorabilia including racing silks, tunics, photographs, race badges, framed newspaper cuttings and horseshoes (their local horse won the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 2010 and they have dedicated an area in the bar to him); there' s a winter log fire in an unusual pillar-supported stone fireplace. The public bar has flagstones and stripped-stone masonry; newspapers to read, darts, board games and background music. Battledown Tipster, Donnington SBA and a beer named for the pub on handpump, several wines (including champagne) by the glass and a dozen malt whiskies. From the pleasant garden behind the pub there are views towards the sloping fields; decent nearby walks.
