fantastic real ale pub. never a bad pint. large selection of ales. friendly atmosphere with good honest food in large portions. dogs welcome, kids not. what more do you need?! senior citizen friendly.
Firstly, I must say - that I am a father of 2 children (currently 10 & 12), and think it's great that there are family orientated pubs. Great stuff. Marvellous. So there should be.

However, I'm also a real ale drinker who appreciates quiet Music-Free, and Child-free pubs. So therefore if you have kids, simply go to another pub. This is what I do when I have my bambinos with me. But when I'm just out for a real quality ale without my kids - I head straight for the unpretentious GRIFFON at Shustoke. It's a brilliant ale pub.

What is pretentious are parents who expect all other adults to coo over their screaming children.

Don't expect a warm welcome if you have children. As a father with an 18 month old girl it's rare that I get a trip out to the pub so when my parents took me out to lunch I was happy that the Griffin was suggested (being a fan of open fires and real ale!). Unfortunately we were met with an abrupt sign that said 'children in conservatory only' and after a teasing glimpse into the welcoming bar area were directed back out into the December cold towards the equally cold, empty and unwelcoming conservatory/store room. We got back in the car and left. Unpretentious? I think not.
