Golden Heart, Brimpsfield, Gloucestershire, GL4 8LA – The Good Pub Guide

Good Pub Guide Recommended

Nice old-fashioned furnishings in several cosy areas, big log fire, friendly licensees, and seats on the suntrap terrace; bedrooms
Handy after enjoying one of the nearby walks, this is a traditional inn with quite a lot of character. The main low-ceilinged bar is divided into five cosily distinct areas; there's a roaring log fire in the huge stone inglenook fireplace in one, well worn and traditional built-in settles and other old-fashioned furnishings throughout, quite a few brass items and typewriters, foreign banknotes, exposed stone walls and wood panelling; maybe newspapers to read. A comfortable parlour on the right has another decorative fireplace and leads into a further room that opens on to the terrace. Brakspears Bitter, Jennings Cumberland, Otter Bitter and Ringwood Best Bitter on handpump and several wines by the glass. From the tables and chairs under parasols on the suntrap terrace, there are pleasant views down over a valley.

Good Pub Guide Food

Quite a choice of bar food includes sandwiches, deep-fried brie, garlic mushrooms, steak in ale pie, goats cheese and caramelised onion tart, lamb noisettes with mint gravy, ham hock with parsley sauce, and chicken stuffed with apple and cider and wrapped in bacon; many of their dishes are gluten free.

We have visited serveral time now, and fast becoming our favourite haunt. Great food and beer. Relaxed, warm atmosphre. Attentive and friendly staff. Highly recommened.

Main bar nice and cosy with log fire but no other heating and rest of pub decidedly chilly. We were told that boiler on blink and someone else asked for woodburner to be lit but was refused. My "chicken filled with Stilton" lacked Stilton and so was rather bland. Altogether a rather disappointing visit.

Proper traditional pubs like this are getting hard to find. Super food, beer and service. Well worth the trip, beautiful old place

A very welcome stop on a long cross country drive. Full of character and a superb beer garden at the back with great views. Excellent well filled imaginative sandwiches and four real ales available including local micros. Helpful friendly staff - a real gem this one.
