We stayed here for 2 nights and found that all the staff were extremely welcoming and efficient. The pub is fairly quiet attracting an older crowd and seems popular with visitors and locals alike. The bar areas are cosy with tables available for eating (there is also a formal restaurant) . Food of a high standard yet reasonably priced. Rooms comfortable, if in need of a decor makeover.

As someone who loves this part of the country and the hospitality it offers, this is one hostelry we WILL NOT be visiting again. We stopped off one snowy Saturday afternoon in early February, needing a warm and some sustenance, and chose this very pleasant looking pub. I have to say, we found the gentlemen behind the bar to be most unwelcoming. Maybe it was our Black Country accent that did it, but I have never felt so uncomfortable in a pub in my life. I did think it was just me, but both our friend and her husband both commented on the atmosphere when we alighted. He seemed happy to take our money from us, but could not take his eyes off us and made us feel very uncomfortable. I'm happy to say this is the one and only time I've ever felt like this in this area of the country, and it won't put to me off visiting the area again, just not this particular pub.
Sorry

Been here a few times now- great food and beer, but I have to say the landlord is not the most friendly. Moaned when we were (literally) one minute late and asked some very well behaved kids to keep quiet when they were not disturbing anyone. Decent pub but food not a patch on the Apple Tree down the road, and not as friendly..
