Absolutely fantastic!
We went to the newly managed fox and hounds at sproston on saturday January 12th where we had booked a table for four earlier in the week. Our table was for 8pm and on our arrival the bar was busy and buzzing with people. We were kindly taken to our table in the newly refurbished and stylish restaurant where it was nearly full (they had a party of 11, a party of 6 and 2 smaller tables) we were seated in the lower part of the restaurant where there were 3 other tabkes reserved and one already seated. My wife and I both had the carpaccio of beef to start, plus our friends had soup and king prawns. All the starters were beautiful, for mains 3 of us had steaks all cooked to perfection and I had the pan fried calves liver. For dessert I highky recommend the sticky toffee pudding, the best I've ever had. All the food was fresh and cooked to order, and with a good selection of cask ales (4 in all) and a good wine selction a great night out was had by us all. It was great value and an absolutely brilliant atmosphere, by 8.30pm the place was full and buzzing. Would highly recommend a visit if you are nearby. So much so we have booked for a Burns night special they're having on Friday 25th January. For extra information the telephone nuber listed is not right its 01606 841180, would hate for you to miss out on this great local eatery, a REAL country pub with heart.
It was recomended that we visit this pub, but after reading what was on here i was dubious!! however we went along with trepidation and we were totally blown away, the food was all fresh and excellant they even gave us homemade bread as the food doesn't come out in 5 mins the staff where wonderfull and very accomodating especially as i have dietry requirements that usually baffle other establishments. The owner not only suggested foods she made sure there was plenty of it and at the end of the meal she was giving out complimentry little shots of something nice, mine was Limoncello as i had fish. the place was tastfully decorated for Christmas with crackers on the table in silver and gold. We will definately be going back hopefully for the Burn's night, which we were told you do need a pre order form for.
Never again! We booked for our company Christmas meal only to be greeted by a bare, unfestive pub with rave/disco music playing while we were there. We couldn't order off the Christmas menu, we were told that we should have booked our meals in advance (fair enough).
Some items on the menu were offered only if there was enough from the night before ( so fresh went out the window)! We were waiting for Manuel (Fawlty Towers) to appear from the kitchen. We found the new landlady very pushy with trying to choose our food selection for us and the way we should have it cooked to our dismay. My steak was bloody which she assured me that it wouldn't be. Now we know why it was empty.
On the plus side, It was very clean and tidy, the tables were set out with plenty of space between them, some of the food was quite tasty and presented well.
We recently visited the Fox and Hounds, as we'd heard it was under new management and we're so glad we did! The food was exceptional, they had a good range on their menu, and a couple of specials. They're still trying to get up on their feet, but over all the service and food is excellent. They're currently a bit short on their choice of cask ales, but the landlord said they're trying to get more in! A must try if you're ever looking for somewhere to eat!
Young staff that need to go on a customer care course.
Table booked for a specific time that this pub could not accommodate. Not kept informed about why we were not seated at agreed time. 1 member of staff thought it clever to suggest it was our fault for arriving early. Early was not an issue - Late was. Left without eating. Found a better pub with excellent customer service elsewhere.
