Original gastro pub and still popular - arrive early as dishes run out or change quickly; open-plan room dominated by giant range and all too busy, noisy and scruffy for some, basic well worn school chairs, assortment of tables, a couple of sofas on bare boards, modern art (gallery upstairs too), Wells & Youngs and a guest, good wines by glass and decent coffee; background music sometimes loud, not ideal for a quiet dinner (weekends quieter); children and dogs welcome, closed Sun evening, bank holidays and for a week at Christmas, otherwise open all day
