Eagle, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, CB2 3QN – The Good Pub Guide

Worth a Visit

Go for the original architectural features (once the city's most important coaching inn); rambling rooms with two medieval mullioned windows and the remains of possibly medieval wall paintings, two fireplaces dating to around 1600, lovely worn wooden floors and plenty of pine panelling, dark red ceiling left unpainted since World War II to preserve signatures of British and American airmen made with Zippo lighters, candle smoke and lipstick, Greene King ales including Eagle DNA (Crick and Watson announced the discovery of DNA's structure here in 1953) and two guests, enjoyable efficiently served food despite the crowds; children welcome, disabled facilities, heavy wooden seats in attractive cobbled and galleried courtyard, open all day
