Crown, Bray, Berkshire, SL6 2AH – The Good Pub Guide

Good Pub Guide Recommended

Low-beamed pub with refurbished, knocked-through rooms, surprisingly pubby food (given the owner), real ales and plenty of outside seating
Now that this 16th-c pub is owned by Heston Blumenthal, many customers are here for the good, surprisingly pubby food. But drinkers drop in, too, and they keep Courage Best and Directors and Sharps Doom Bar on handpump and several wines by the glass. The partly panelled main bar has heavy old beams – some so low you may have to mind your head - plenty of timbers handily left at elbow height where walls have been knocked through, three winter log fires and newly upholstered dining chairs and cushioned settles. There are modern slatted chairs and tables in the courtyard with plenty of picnic-sets in the large, enclosed back garden.

Good Pub Guide Food

Popular food now includes lunchtime sandwiches, potted duck with grilled bread, moules marinière, macaroni with leeks and chanterelle mushrooms, Angus burger with fries, steak in ale suet pie and lemon sole with potted shrimps, cucumber and dill; vegetables are extra which bumps the price up.

Bar food times: 12 - 2.30 (3 weekends) , 6 (7 Sun) - 9.30 (6.30 - 10 Fri and Sat)

I am staggered by the post of Smithlan.I visited this pub with my family early in January and again last Saturday. On both occasions the staff were helpful in indicating how long we would have to wait for a table-each time we were seated far more quickly than had been anticipated ,the service was speedy and friendly and the food very good.
The building is my idea of a proper pub, where, despite the gastro ownership, you would not feel uncomfortable just popping in for a pint.
We have certainly added it to our list of favourites even though it is a forty minute drive from our home.

Appalling.

This pleasant and quaint little pub has been totally striped of charector and charm by the pompous owner and his carefully selected team of arrogant, rude and truly awful staff.
A particular mention must go to the ginger "manager" (A.Carson) who was more interested in messing about with his phone and laughing at his own crude, crass and non-humorous jokes. He was abrasive and waved my wife away when she was going to enquire about the menu and truly seems on the most part a very poorly made choice by Heston to have this absolute waste of space personify his business.

I will strongly advise everyone that i can to give this place a very very wide berth unless the insufferable and obnoxious staffing issue is addressed.

PLEASE DO NOT GIVE THIS PUB YOUR TIME LET ALONE YOUR MONEY
