Chatty atmosphere in nice old pub, traditional rooms, and well liked food and drink; the Eden Project is close by; bedrooms

This white-painted longhouse is one of Cornwall's oldest pubs and has some real character. The main bar has a warming log fire in the huge fireplace, traditional settles on big flagstones, some cushioned farmhouse chairs, a mix of wooden chairs and tables, and Sharps Doom Bar, Skinners Betty Stogs and a couple of changing guest beers on handpump, a dozen wines by the glass, several malt whiskies and summer farm cider. A couple of other rooms are similarly furnished and there's another open fire; darts and board games. There' s a huge lit-up well with a glass top by the porch and plenty of picnic-sets in the quiet garden. The Eden Project is only ten minutes away.

Good Pub Guide Food

Nicely presented bar food includes lunchtime sandwiches and pasties, mini crab cakes with cauliflower purée, pea and mushroom risotto, popular fish pie and specials like corn-fed chicken with garlic and mushroom cream, and local mussels in coconut milk, chilli and ginger.
