I am pleased to announce that since The Good Pub Guide going to publish I have taken the Cross Keys Inn off the market!
We hope to welcoming as many of you in 2012 to the Cross Keys Inn.

We've just had a very pleasant 2 night stay here, with comfortable bedrooms, good food, good beer (and wine too, with the meals). A very friendly pub, well run, in lovely countryside, with the feeling of being much enjoyed by all those drinking and eating there.

What a great spot for a pub! Even in the snow and frost i found this place a welcoming and hospitable inn. We parked up and had a great chat with the landlord, George, while loading up the fire with logs ready for our return from our planned walk. The countryside round here is stunning and will be even better when spring in in full flow. On returning to the bar we were met by the pub dogs who are so soft and friendly and we stood by the fire to thaw out. Lunch was two of the best homemade pie we have come across -beef and stilton and minted lamb - and the chips were the best we have ever had in a pub. ( George wouldn't tell me how they did it!). Overall a great experience and well deserving of the award. A true country pub - simple food but well done, well kept ales ( Try the Yo Ho Ho!!) We will be back. Don F

My name is George Humphrey and I am the owner of The Cross Keys Inn. I am more than sorry to hear the two customer reviews below and offer my sincere apologies that you did not have a good experience here.
There is no excuse for not maintaining the standard we have become known for and although I do not wish to make excuses, we have undergone a turbulent period recently. However, we now have a new full time chef in residence and a new staff training program has been put in place.

First impression of the pub very nice, lovely open fire.
Staff not at all welcoming for a country pub. Limited menu, with a number of the dishes unavailable so early on a Saturday evening. Starters o.k. The 4 main meals we ordered the steak meals very poor asked for medium rear, received burnt on both side, and very rare on inside. Both steaks had large amount of fat and gristle, chips on all meals were very greasy, plus side salad did not seem to be fresh. Fish dish very disappointing the beer batter was very greasy, and the fish small and very over cooked. All sauces were very bland.
At least the steak and kidney pudding was nice with lovely fresh veg, could of done with extra gravy as could not finish meal due to being dry. We were not ask if we would like dessert or coffee or even asked if we enjoyed our meal.
In summery food and service was very poor and will not be recommending this pub to others for food. A great shame

Overall, quite disappointed. Firstly, I tried to call ahead to book a table for 2 several times, but no answer. Took a gamble and just turned up though, which was okay. The service was alright but the food was a real let down. I sent mine back which I have never done before - my mother's portion was big enough for the both of us anyway. My noodles were still hard and the tuna steak was raw. I would have thought a pub like this, having won an award so recently, would be much much better. It's quite out in the sticks so I would only recommend it if you desperately want to try it out. I didn't think the journey was worth it.

Actually it is in Wiltshire not Hampshire and comes under Wiltshire Council (formerley Kennet District). Great Beer Festival last weekend with live bands and Hog Roast.

I think you'll find that this pub is in Hampshire, not Wiltshire.
