Crabmill, Preston Bagot, Warwickshire, B95 5EE – The Good Pub Guide

Good Pub Guide Recommended

Mill conversion with comfortable décor, relaxed atmosphere, and smart bar food
Still on terrific form, this rambling old cider mill gains particular praise for its enjoyable atmosphere, accommodating friendly service and delicious food. This is a lovely building that has been attractively decorated with contemporary furnishings and warm colour combinations. The smart two-level lounge area has comfortable sofas and chairs, low tables, big table lamps and one or two rugs on bare boards. The elegant and roomy low-beamed dining area has caramel leather banquettes and chairs at pine tables, and a beamed and flagstoned bar area has some stripped-pine country tables and chairs, snug corners and a gleaming metal bar serving Greene King Abbot and IPA and Purity Pure UBU on handpump, with ten wines by the glass from a mostly new world list. Piped music is well chosen and well reproduced. There are lots of tables (some of them under cover) out in a large, attractive, decked garden. Booking is advised, especially Sunday lunchtime when it's popular with families.

Good Pub Guide Food

As well as their lunchtime snack menu which includes interestingly filled pitta, bagels and wraps and a couple of good value dishes such as bolognaise with linguine, the imaginative menu might include chilli and fennel crumbed squid with spiced tomato pickle and aioli, crispy duck salad with asian vegetables, vermicellie noodles and sweet chilli sauce, lentil, potato and chickpea curry with fennel bhajis and chapatti, moroccan-style bass with butternut, tomato, nuts and couscous, and pork tenderloin in parma ham with spring onion and herb potato cake and apple and apricot chutney.

Bar food times: 12 - 3 (5 Fri, Sat, 4 Sun) , 6.30 - 9.30; not Sun evening

Reader Comments

Poor staffing- totally disinterested in customers. Menu poorly balanced with emphasis on cream and cheese- especially on pudding menu. Well cooked fish spoiled by cheese sauce. New Potatoes were actually sauteed, and staff did not seem to know the differecne.
