What they say
Enjoying a superb coastal location with unequalled sea views over Bembridge Ledge. This award winning hostelry is popular with both locals and visitors alike, where locally caught seafood can be enjoyed all year round. In fact, the lobster is caught daily by a local fisherman within sight of the pub and brought direct to the kitchen door so could not be fresher.

As well as the extensive menu available all year round there is an ever changing specials board featuring seasonal dishes complemented by real ales and an extensive wine list. With a traditional intimate beamed interior, open fireplaces and attractive patio area overlooking the sea it has all the ingredients for a relaxed and enjoyable experience whatever the weather. Its five ensuite Bed and Breakfast Rooms provide the location for a perfect escape and have been awarded 4 AA stars. We look forward to welcoming you with us.

Good Pub Guide Recommended

Seafood speciality and prime location; pleasant bedrooms

Given its lovely position and good seafood it's not surprising that this well placed inn draws the summer crowds. It's perched on low cliffs within yards of the shore, with great views over the Solent from the terrace, dining area and some of the bedrooms. Inside it's roomier than you might expect and is done out in an almost parlourish style, with lots of yachting memorabilia, old local photographs, and a blazing winter fire; darts, dominoes and cribbage. Courage, Goddards Fuggle-Dee-Dum and Greene King IPA are on handpump, with decent house wines, about 20 malt whiskies and good coffee; piped music.

Good Pub Guide Food

Lobster and crab are the things to go for here as they are brought straight to the door by the pub's own fishermen and prepared in most ways you can imagine - anything from sandwiches to crab cakes and seafood tagliatelle, to crab salad, mixed seafood grill or whole lobster. Other meals (all in generous helpings) include sandwiches, steak sandwich, ploughman's, chicken caesar salad, curries, lasagne and steaks; beware, they may try to keep your credit card while you eat.

Bar food times: 12 - 2.30, 6 - 9 (9.30 Fri, Sat) with limited menu 2.30 - 5.30 wknds and holidays

After forming an orderly queue by the food bar on
on the dot of 12 noon we had a excellent Brie and bacon
baguette with a side order of chips. The staff were helpful
and friendly - the lady who served us had to fend off customers
who claimed she was australian. She was born locally!
