Tried this again to see if it was any better but sadly no.
Front of house very good with a genuine greeting, most important.
Food was well below standard compared to other establishments we have frequented.
Told the owner/manager & they did apologise, but when you spend £20+ you expect simple cod & chips to be perfect but thet were addled with oil. Most unpleasant and felt sickly for sometime
Cheers

As a pub, this is first class. There were four real ales on tap, and my selection, Timothy Taylor's Landlord, was very well kept. The bar had a nice, buzzy, friendly atmosphere and service was reasonably quick.
As a place to stay it was much less successful. Our room was basic, soulless, and not very clean.
Breakfast was good, but meals in the restaurant less so. There is a worryingly long menu, and three dishes out of four were just not very well prepared.

We stayed here in early January for two nights. We received a good welcome from the bar staff despite being at least three hours ahead of the booking in time. The atmosphere in the bar was great. We enjoyed the Lunch and Dinner we had on our first night in the bar,but the portions were too large .This rather spoilt the obvious good cooking.Similarly the portions of food in the restaurant were too large as we found out on our second night. The restaurant is a delightful room.
We felt that the pub merits it's entry in the Guide.
We are hopeful that perhaps our comments will reach you on this occasion.
