THE CASTLE SNAPE, YORKSHIRE
This is a lovely pub situated in a quiet village. On the hottest day of the year thus far at 30 degrees, we welcomed its cool flag stoned interior with its beams and brasses. The pub was empty at lunchtime, 12.15pm, so ordering soft drinks and sandwiches from the disinterested landlord who failed to pass the time of day with us, we took our drinks and went outside to the front terrace with its handful of picnic sets to await the arrival of our lunch. A short time later the lunch, a tuna and sweetcorn sandwich arrived minus the sweetcorn and when queried were told ‘he doesn’t have any sweetcorn today’. When asked if we could have a parasol to shelter from the blistering heat, we were told they are in the back garden. Not too friendly. Needless to say the sun baked the bread to toast and we left hurriedly.

The chef, Derek, is truly talented and currently is offering 2 courses at a bargain £8. I had mushrooms filled with home made pate, battered and deep fried served with salad and garlic mayonnaise, followed by rib eye with steak peppercorn sauce and amazing home made chunky chips. How does he do it at that price? Highly recommended.
