Good Pub Guide Recommended
With fine coastal walks in either direction, this little local is just the place for a break and it's in a charming fishing cove position at the bottom of a pretty village. The two snugly dark front rooms have plain pub furnishings on their mainly parquet flooring, a log fire in one stripped-stone end wall, lots of local photographs including some of gig races, cases of naval hat ribands and of fancy knot-work and a couple of compass binnacles. Some of the dark beams have ships' shields and others have spliced blue rope hand-holds. Otter Bitter, Sharps Doom Bar and Skinners Betty Stogs on handpump. A back bar has a huge and colourful fish mural; piped music. There are green-painted picnic-sets on the good-sized front terrace, some under a fairy-lit awning, looking down to the fish sheds by the bay. The bedrooms overlook the sea and they make their own jams and marmalades for breakfast. While it's best to park at the top of the village and meander down through the thatched cottages, it's quite a steep hike back up again.
