Lucky Dip

Very special old drinkers' pub (16th-c former maltings) with up to eight real ales and in landlady's family for five generations; quite unchanging and completely unspoilt with friendly staff and locals, character small rooms and snugs, traditional furniture inc a nice high-backed settle, woodburner, the ‘bar' is landlady's front parlour (as notice on the door politely reminds customers), simple lunchtime food, live folk and blues; no piped music, mobile phones or credit cards; children and dogs welcome, picnic-sets overlooking weir

No bar (yes, really!), concentration on real ales with little sign of lager, old fashioned opening hours, small rooms and a very limited snack menu, but don't be fooled. This is a special pub that reminds us of what we have lost over the years of pubco dominance.

The beer is always good and varied. The food is excellent if you want a snack and reasonably priced. Great for real ale appreciators, but probably not the place to take a family.
I can't think of another pub that is better than this.

We love this pub! Always a good range of excellent, well kept beers available, with friendly licensee and staff always willing to help choose. Cosy rooms and a small but beautifully prepared range of food. Highly recommended.
