Good Pub Guide Recommended
The uncluttered carpeted bar at this timeless 300-year-old country local has just five tables. There are decorative plates on a delft shelf and a few horsebrasses on the ceiling joists, brocaded wall banquettes and settles, and a warm woodburning stove. Cheerful regulars might occupy the few bar stools to enjoy the two tasty Caythorpe beers that are brewed by the friendly licensee family in outbuildings here and are served alongside Caythorpe Dover Beck and a couple of guests from Bass, Adams or Greene King Abbot. Off the front corridor is a partly panelled inner room with a wall bench running right the way around three unusual long copper-topped tables, and there are quite a few old local photographs; darts and board games. Down on the left, an end room has just one huge round table. There are some plastic tables outside, and the River Trent is fairly close for waterside walks.
