Good Pub Guide Recommended

Attractively modernised dining pub with pretty gardens, relaxed atmosphere, real ales, and good food cooked by the landlord; bedrooms
Always busy and friendly, this attractive pub is run by a welcoming landlord and his helpful staff. The long, stylishly modernised two-roomed bar has lots of well spaced tables on the parquet floor, beams in the whitewashed ceiling and horsebrasses. There's a restaurant at one end and a log fire in a stone fireplace at the other. Wessex Crockerton Classic and Potters Ale on handpump, several wines by the glass and cider; piped music. There are plenty of inviting places to sit outside too, with various garden areas featuring plenty of picnic-sets. Longleat is close by so it does get crowded during school holidays.

Good Pub Guide Food

Cooked by the landlord, the good, enjoyable food includes filled baguettes, crab mayonnaise, courgette, leek and tarragon risotto, burger with bacon and tomato salsa, cumberland sausage and champ, fillet of black bream with asparagus and artichoke, and calves liver with black pudding and chestnuts.

Excellent pub for food (except the chips were a bit bland). My duck breast with black pudding and cauliflower cheese was wonderful. Crockery needs replacing - some chipped and worn-looking plates and bowls. My beer glass looked very scratched and scuffed. Lets down the superb grub. Friendly atmosphere, great location. Dog friendly (four huge well-behaved dogs there when we were there).

Ate there at lunchtime on Monday 20th February 2012. Food was very uninspiring, overpriced and pub was not very clean.
Would not go back.
