Proper unspoilt pub under new management, friendly and welcoming , with good choice of changing ales and ciders, simple food, beams, bare boards, panelling, stained glass, leather wall seats, old range and open fire, Civil War prints, bottles and jugs, carpeted snug, traditional games; suntrap back terrace, smokers' shelter, open all day

The Ackhorne is under new management and is doing even better than before. The hours posted are incorrect--the pub is open from 11:00 on every day. Food is served 12-3 Monday-Friday and 12-7 Saturday and Sunday. The fare is pub grub, very well done. Sunday lunch is one of the best in York with beef, pork or nut roast and a good selection of fresh local veg. Rooster's Yankee and Deuchers IPA are always on draught, with a varied selection of guest real ales. Recent selections have included Theakston Dark Mild, Copper Dragon Golden Pippin, and Cropton Two Pints. New manager Aimee Fallon has the place looking great and the mood is laid-back but friendly.
