Good Pub Guide Recommended

Bustling country pub with smashing landlord, relaxed atmosphere and super choice of wines and good food; sizeable garden and nearby walks As always, the enthusiastic Mr Gray and his friendly staff will give you a genuinely warm welcome here - whether you want just a drink and a chat or a full meal. There's a small flagstoned bar area on the left with pictures above its stripped-brick dado, a steadily ticking clock and a log fire. Around to the right of the serving counter - which has a couple of stylish wrought-iron bar chairs - it's carpeted; throughout there is a mix of tables, including some quite small ones for two, and miscellaneous chairs. Twelve wines by the glass from a well chosen list which may include summer rosé and Louis Jadot burgundies from a shipper based just along the lane. Bowman Eldorado and a beer from Triple fff named after the pub on handpump. There are solid tables and chunky seats out on the front terrace, picnic-sets in a sizeable side garden, pleasant views and a cricket field across the quiet lane; nearby walks.

I took a group of 30 to the Yew Tree for lunch, a great reception by Tim. The food was terrific, a great choice on the menu. Everybody was delighted with the quality, the menu choice, the service and the ambience. Excellent pub.

Had dinner last week and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The large menu caters for all tastes and the chef was happy to make a few tweaks for special requests! Great atmosphere, friendly bar staff (and locals!) and excellent value-for-money, tasty, wholesome food - we will definitely be back. Fascinating selection of pictures to peruse too!

Lovely friendly little pub off the beaten track, but must take issue with other reviews of the food. The food is not great, the lasagne (which is supposed to be a special at the Yew Tree) is very plain containing too many vegetables, the dill infused salmon fish cakes are over cooked and drowned in an unpleasant tartare sauce, the pork belly tough and fatty. This is the second time we have eaten here because we wanted to give it another chance but (after seeing all the rave reviews). Sadly there was no improvement and whilst we will certainly return for a drink, we will eat elsewhere.
