What they say
The Mansion, formerly The Paxton, located at the foot of Sydenham Hill (look for the Crystal Palace TV mast) is a large, Victorian pub recently re-designed with a fresh modern interior feel. The Mansion also has the benefit of a huge garden perfect for long Sunday afternoon lunches in the summer. The emphasis is on food with a British menu, serving classic ‘favourites’ such as home made pies and roasts (Time Out Best Sunday Lunch in South London) as well as daily changing specials from slow roast pork belly with prawns and duck confit with black pudding. The style is unfussy; dishes are prepared with carefully selected choice cuts of meat, Barnsley Chops, Ruby Red Beef and fresh fish of the day….Serving up game shot by the landlord in the winter, trout in the summer. A great local boozer with great atmosphere and food.

We go here regularly as a family and with friends. It never fails to impress. Great selection on the menu using seasonal foods which I gather are often picked or caught ( trout) by the owners. Sunday roast is the best I've had. The childrens menu has all a kid would want! Homemade chicken nuggets, fish fingers, sausages or pies. Lovely homemade icecream too. The staff are always friendly and nothing is too much trouble. It has a warm welcome feel to the pub and a fantastic garden! Great suntrap. Think I might pop along this evening!

This was a pleasure - the food is a cut above normal pub fayre - even the simple things such as the burgers were cooked perfectly - and they can pour guinness properly too
