This beautiful traditional coaching inn, recorded as selling beer since 1620, seems to have changed little in 400yrs. New licensees Nick and Elaine make locals and visitors most welcome.
Beamed ceilings and wood fires give atmosphere to the Main Bar and to the quieter Lounge Bar and Dining Room, through the Games Room you will find the fantastic Skittle Alley in the old stables. There is a sheltered courtyard and for better weather two other gardens.
Good beer is a priority, on offer there are 4 sometimes 5 really good local ales, as well as all the usual favourites.
The food is home cooked from fresh ingredients , many being locally produced, indeed the lamb is raised in the village. Specialities include Shoulder of Lamb, Belly Pork and The Black Horse Beef Burger.
The area is popular with walkers and cyclists, West Dean Railway Station is only 2.5miles away.
